H20!
A new film and a new exhibition
To gain a better understanding of the issues of the access to water, world wide
Spotlight on water at the Pass
Since October 2004, the Pass has centred its programming on the challenges and issues for people living in the 21st century: sustainable development (with the film "Does the Future have a Future?" shown in the Palace of Images), global warming (with the Antarctic exhibition that opened at the end of 2006) and, now, the challenges involved in accessing water (exhibition and film).
Taking water as its subject matter, the Pass is taking another step forward in its theme of sustainable society and the issues facing our planet. Like climate change, the question of water is a major challenge for the future of the Earth and humanity. So promoting awareness and passing on understanding of all things relating to water is urgent.
Throughout 2008, the spotlight will be on water at the Pass, with a series of events.
H20! The film and the exhibition
One atom of oxygen, two atoms of hydrogen. Three atoms to create water, and make life on earth possible.
Our blue planet is made of water, yet 1 person out of 3 is deprived of clean water. Would this be chance or a choice of civilisation? Water is our common property, access to water is a right, safeguarding water is our duty.
Specially designed for the Palace of Images projection system (on 5 giant surfaces of a cube), the film focuses on the question of water, planet-wide. It takes the audience on an impressive expedition to look for this wonderful source of life, access to which is gradually becoming more and more difficult across our planet. The main actor featuring here is water, in sound and in images. The various sounds of water mingle with the sheer poetry of sumptuous images and the original soundtrack by the Belgian band Flexa Lyndo and invite us to share a moving and gripping journey through the world of water.
With a resolutely interactive approach, the exhibition throws a clearer light on the natural and human mechanisms underlying access to water for everyone, from the natural cycle of water to the management of resources and the supply. Where is water to be found? In what form? How is it used in the four corners of the Earth? How does it reach our homes? What price are we prepared to pay?
